“Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Albert Einstein
When she was 2 and could first hold a pencil, little Laurie’s father brought home small notepads from his office and she would create doodle after doodle, scattering them like a trail of flat crumbs throughout the house. This sufficed for a few years ... until she learned to read. Upon discovering her first fairytale, drawing pictures got a boot to the back burner while Laura Beatty took a deep dive into the dark and mystical world of castles, witches, goblins, and princesses. Her imagination was ignited and back to pencil and paper it was. Without question, it was clear that making pictures was Laura’s venue for releasing the artist within. She attended the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota Florida and after a three year nesting in the cozy and encouraging bosom of the finest of art instructors and fellow art students, Ms. Beatty felt ready to test her wings. Tucked in a flock of fellow starry-eyed “Ringlingites” all migrating to Boston, Laura flew away. That was many years ago and from then to now her life has been filled to bursting with all the usual wonders that come with any fairytale. Falling in love, building a family, meeting and making friends with a variety of magical characters, all the while painting lots and lots of pictures and scattering them like jumbo crumbs all over this big ol’ world. “Each of us has a numen stored inside us, a genius of unique brilliance.” says Laura. “I like to think of these brilliancies as snowflakes and you know what they say about snowflakes--no two are alike. To let this genius melt unexplored is to miss the opportunity to know who we truly are. Traveling though the portal of imagination into the realm of possibilities stimulates intention and when that happens, fasten your seat belt and get ready for a wild ride! That is when we take off for the heavens. I create for the joy of it -- me and the bee. The honey just happens, yet that nectar is the taste that inspires someone else to explore their own genius. See how perfectly nature works?” In the span of 27 years there have been numerous of those delightful kudos we all call accolades, plenty of awards and purchases by prestigious institutions and people. But in the whole scheme of things – and it is a BIG scheme....it’s like Gandhi has been quoted....”Almost anything you do will be insignificant, but, it is very important that you do it.” So, go ahead - reach for the stars.....if nothing else, it will keep you limber so that you can bend easily in a stiff wind.
